As the limo pulls up to the gigantic cobblestoned entrance, all eight ladies are waiting to meet him, ready to fight for the chance to become queen. Standing right outside that glossy black door, rose in hand, is the man they have been waiting to meet: King Ahasuerus. The limo door opens; it’s time for these ladies to meet the man they hope to marry.

Lady one emerges from the limo and walks over to the king.
“Hello, my name is Isabella,” she says as he hands her a plump red rose.
“It’s nice to meet you Isabella,” he says as she walks over to the beautifully large marble fountain.
One-by-one the ladies meet the charming king and join each other by the fountain. Johanna, Aloisa, Deborah, Adlai. Then the fifth lady gracefully steps out of the limousine, her fairness and beauty capturing the king’s attention.
“My name is Ether,” she says in a soft, soothing voice.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Esther,” the king says, unable to remove his eyes from her. The last two contestants, Tabitha and Cassian, receive their roses and join the others by the fountain.

“Welcome!” says the king. “It is so lovely to meet all of you and I am excited to get to know each and every one of you. But first let me tell you a little about myself.”
“Recently I have banished my wife and am now looking for a new queen to rule my kingdom with. Which ever one of you lucky ladies pleases me the most will have the honor of becoming my new queen.”
“You will be staying in my harem for two days. On day one all of you will go on a date with me, whether it is a group date or a one-on-one date. At the end of the day will be elimination and only one of you will continue on to be my queen. The following day all of you will join me at the palace to see the final lady be crowed queen. The first day begins tomorrow. Good Luck!”

Day 1:
The alarms all start going off at 8am, and the women slowly crawl out of their beds and begin their morning routines of eating breakfast, taking showers, hitting the gym, reading, whatever; they are all laying in wait, hoping for king Ahasuerus arrive soon. Suddenly the doorbell rings, it’s 9am and the girls begin to become frantic. “OMG! It’s Ahasuerus!” Tabitha screams, as she and Johanna run to answer the door. Tabitha swings open the door only to find one of the king’s servants standing there.

“I have a message for the ladies from the king!” said the servant. “Today there will be three sets of dates, each of you will be going on a date with the king either in set of threes or in pairs. Deborah, Isabella, and Aloisa – you two will be joining the king on his yacht from 10am until noon. Tabitha, Johanna and Cassian – you two will be joining the kind on a helicopter tour of the kingdom from 1 o’clock until 3 o’clock. Adlai and Esther – you two will be joining the king for a wine tasting at his private vineyard from 4 o’clock to 6pm.  All of you are to meet back here in the foyer at nine o’clock sharp for elimination.” As the servant closed the doors behind him, the women began to frantically get dressed and prepare for their dates.

Soon after, a limo arrived for Isabella, Deborah and Aloisa, and they were quickly whisked away. They arrived in front of an incredibly large white yacht with Sea Queen written on the side, and there, on the deck, was king Ahasuerus waiting their arrival. The four sat on the deck around a large round table with a white tablecloth. They drank only the best champagne, ate crab cakes, and had riveting conversations filled with laughter. While Isabella, Deborah and Aloisa were more than satisfied with the company of the king, the king, on the other hand, felt as though there was something missing and longed to find the one woman who would fill him with that spark.

For the second date, Ahasuerus met Johanna, Tabitha and Cassian at a large grassy clearing near his harem where the helicopter was waiting to take them up, up, and away. He greeted them and quickly realized that he would not be satisfied with either Johanna, Tabitha or Cassian, for neither was proper enough to be queen; but he led them onto the chopper and the three had an enjoyable afternoon viewing his magnificent kingdom from the skies above.

As Esther and Adlai arrived at the spectacular vineyard for the final date, the king rode up on his handsome white steed. “Welcome to my sanctuary,” king Ahasuerus said as he looked upon it with pride. He showed them into a dimly lit room filled with candles. A long wooden table was placed in the middle with three bottles of wine and glasses. As they sat around enjoying themselves, the king found himself drawn to Esther. Her beauty and grace was so intoxicating he hardly realized that Adlai was in the room.  He was so entranced that he did not even realize that it was time for him to leave so he could ponder his decision.

The time for elimination was approaching and the women began to become nervous, for the kings decision would determine their future. Suddenly it was nine o’clock and the women were gathered in the foyer waiting on the arrival of the king. The front doors open and a red carpet rolls out. It’s king Ahasuerus in a sleek black tuxedo, solitary rose in his right hand. With a serious expression about him the king walked down the red carpet, stopping right in front of the eight women.

“I had such a wonderful day getting to know each and every one of you, but, unfortunately, there is only one women in this room who was able to give me the spark I longed for.”
The king stepped off the carpet and began walking closer to the women. With each gradual step, the hearts of the women began to beat faster and faster because they knew this was the moment of truth. King Ahasuerus approached his choice, got down on one knee, and presented the red rose to her saying, “Esther, will you do me the honor of becoming my queen?” “Of course I will,” said Esther ecstatically, with seven heart broken women in the background all mourning their failure. And so Esther and the king were wed the next day. Their story? To be continued…

Authors Note.
In Esther 1, the king decides that he wants a new wife and decides to gather up all the young virgins of the land and chooses one to be his wife. Only eight women, including Esther, were advanced and in the advanced stage each women was to spend one night with the king in order to win his affections so that she may become queen. When reading this I immediately thought of the Bachelor because it was a competition between a group of women who all lived in one house and who were all competing for the same man. While I have never seen the Bachelor, I tried my best to make it as condensed and accurate as I possibly could. My goal was to make this as modern and creative as possible, but this story was definitely the most challenging thing I have ever written. I did not want it to drone on, nor did I want to leave out too many details.
